Footscray
Urban Seed’s work has been emerging in Melbourne's inner west since
2000, with numerous staff and ex-residents from Urban Seed (Melbourne)
choosing to live and work locally. Some have continued participating in
the work of Urban Seed in the city while others have joined with local
churches and community groups.
In 2008 a group of about 10 people have been exploring the Seeds Covenant and developed a formal partnership with Footscray Baptist Church in order to strengthen their shared life and work.
Seedy Manor
We have generously been offered use of the Footscray Baptist Church
Manse. The house offers a base for Urban Seed staff and has provided
short to medium term housing for people in crisis or transition,
including some from Urban Seed’s Credo Cafe in the city. We seek to
provide an informal therapeutic environment which assists people to
participate in Urban Seed's local projects and other community events
Credo Cricket
In partnership with Urban Seed’s Credo Café we run cricket events that
build connections with marginalised people and the iconic 80-year-old
Barkly Street Uniting Church Cricket Club . In the winter months we play at the
Maribyrnong Action Indoor Cricket Centre. In partnership with
Cricket Victoria
we have run street and community cricket activities seeking to involves
and newly arrived groups such as Indian Students and refugee groups
such as the
River Nile Learning Centre.
Urban Seed Edge
We support youth and local schools through a leadership development
program called Urban Seed Edge. We lead educational city walks for
various schools groups and support
Gilmore Girls' College
Chaplaincy program. Seeds Footscray has partnered with Footscray
Baptist Church and support their vision for a Central Footscray
Community Hub.
